Excel Hacks: How to Easily Share Your Spreadsheets

12/13/2020 By Power Inception

There’s a reason why 750 million people worldwide still use Microsoft Excel. The spreadsheet program remains one of the most popular ways of condensing and organizing data. Another reason why Excel remains functional in the hyperconnectivity world of the internet is the ease with which they’re shared.

If you’re new to the program, then you may be wondering how to share an Excel spreadsheet. Luckily, you’re in the right place. In this article, we’ll be going into the topic and more hacks to make the program easier for you. Let’s get started!

How to Share an Excel Spreadsheet

Excel might be easy to use, but sharing it can be remarkably complicated. That’s because when you share a link to someone who doesn’t have Excel, they’re sent to Excel Online. This preview version is severely limited in the edits you can make. However, it’s possible to allow everyone to edit it. First, make sure you save your file as either a SharePoint Online or OneDrive.

Once saved, the owner of the workbook will need to click the share button in the top right corner. Then, a share panel will emerge. However, instead of inviting people, click the ‘Get a sharing link’ option. Copy this link and send it to everyone you’re working with. At this point when people without Excel open the link, they’ll be sent to Excel Online.

However, they can bypass this by signing into Excel Online, by using specific credentials in the document. They can access them by going to File, then Account. Once they sign in, then they can make edits by opening the menu and selecting ‘Edit in Excel’.

The only downside is that only one person can edit at a time. Unfortunately, this is the only way for people without Excel to edit. Also, if you work in .NET Core, then make sure to get a net Excel software before proceeding.

Use Shortcut Keys

If you want to get more proficient in Excel, then you’re the best bet is to master the shortcut keys. This will greatly speed up the pace of your workflow once you memorize them. To get started learning them, make sure to check out this link.

Easily Create a Replica of the Worksheet

A replicable Excel Spreadsheet allows you to create a copy of the file in one form, so you can change things in another. This is valuable when you want to make some potential changes in a group project without permanently editing the spreadsheet. All you need to do is highlight the worksheet that you want to make a copy of. Then, hold the Control key and drag the worksheet using the left mouse. Bam: easy replica!
