03/19/2021 By Power Inception

Searching for methods to improve your non-profit social media profile?

Whether it’s catering to billions of Facebook users or using Instagram, social media marketing is the best way to build your online presence. It helps you find more supporters for your cause. At best, you might even find new volunteers.

However, if you’re using this method, you must do it right. Here are some ways for you to make the most out of your social media presence. Read on and find out:

1. Set Your Account as Nonprofit

Most social media networks give special features for nonprofit organizations. For example, Facebook and Instagram have exclusive “donate” buttons. They also allow special fundraiser campaigns using your social media profile.

YouTube has Link Anywhere cards alongside production resources. They have fundraising tools with dedicated teams for technical support. It’s why you must enroll your profile as a nonprofit to get these benefits.

Consider the ease of setting up your account, as well. YouTube has a process that’s a bit complicated if you want to be a non-profit in the platform. Facebook has a simple process and even has a guide to help you through.

2. Add Your Donation Buttons

If your nonprofit organization collects donations, add donation buttons. Do this on every possible social media. In this guide, you’ll learn about how to do it using your Facebook and Instagram accounts.

It’s better to add these buttons to encourage people to contribute to your cause. It allows someone who just discovered your organization to donate as soon as they see your profile. Here are the steps for both platforms:

Facebook

Go to your Facebook page and click on the Add button. Here, you’ll see “Shop with you or make a donation.” Select Donate before clicking Next.

Click the Donate through Facebook choice before selecting Finish. For it to work, enroll with Facebook Payments first.

Instagram

Go to your nonprofit profile. Open the menu and go to your Settings. Here, you can select Business and then Donations.

After that, look for the option that says “Add Donate Button to Profile.” Turn the slider on to enable the feature.

After adding these buttons, promote your social media accounts. Add links on your website, newsletters, and email signatures. It’s easier for people to connect to you, making them confident that you’re legitimate.

3. Make Social Media Guidelines and Policies

Often, teams run nonprofits alongside their volunteer network. This network has lots of people coming from different backgrounds, skillsets, and schedules. Without social media policies, you have no structure and can’t adapt to new situations.

New volunteers will learn how your social media presence works with clear guidelines. They’ll remain consistent regardless of the person running the profiles. Here are some topics your social media policy must include:

  • Team member directory with roles and contacts
  • Security procedures
  • Crisis communications plans
  • Privacy, confidentiality, and copyright laws
  • Staff and volunteer social media behaviors

Aside from these policies, come up with social media guidelines. You can combine it with your policies or make a separate document. Here are some things to include:

  • Style guide for brand voice
  • Best practices
  • Training opportunity links
  • Negative message handling
  • Mental health resources

These guidelines will keep your teams informed. It helps them succeed while preventing unnecessary resource spending. It reduces the budget strain for your nonprofit.

4. Make a Content Calendar

To keep your nonprofit staff on the same page, make a content calendar. It allows everyone to plan. It prevents stretching your resources too thin while scrambling to make something before the deadline.

Think about some key events your cause supports. For example, nonprofits aiming to empower women must plan for related holidays. It can include International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, and more.

After determining your external events, make a content strategy complementing your objectives. Pinpoint the right time to run these fundraisers and campaigns.

To start scheduling content, think about how often your profile must post. Aim for the highest level of consistency possible. If you want to post weekly, stick to it and never waver.

Use various resources to know the best times to post on social media platforms. Use your analytics to determine the best time for your followers to be online. It allows them to see your posts better.

It ranges from cold, hard facts to warmhearted anecdotes. Never underestimate the power of visual media, especially video content. These types of content are highly shareable on social media platforms.

How-to and tutorial videos will always be popular on social media. It matters not what platform you share it on. If your nonprofit strategy is to educate people, consider using these formats.

Certain issues reveal cold, hard truths. To make your audience know it better, use statistics and facts presented visually. Infographics can help put the story behind these figures.

Instagram has a carousel format. Use this feature to process complicated or multilingual information as a series of photos. Ensure each image can stand on its own, making it easier to share each slide.

You can also use effective calls-to-action and quote motivational speakers as content. Rally people behind your cause using your posts. Think of them as a protest sign and write compelling messages people can get behind.
